Sxviper, I tried drilling the 3/8 holes but it didn't work well on my machine. I think if I slot them a little bigger the material will escape. Will try and let know.

I know it's not the best thing to hear but alot of your troubles are because the machine itself is having a hard time. Honestly, the 3hp is a torque deficient machine, you'll have trouble getting it to run harder biomass such as sawdust. If you can, try pine, it might help. It will make paper pellets fine. Where did you buy it? I assume it's electric? I had tested a 3hp and stopped considering purchases within a few weeks because it's just to small of a motor. try to modify it to a larger engine and see the difference! Good Luck

sxviper04 what's the bagger you got and where?
Posted 2 years ago # -
i got it off ebay. it's a 24" impulse sealer. came on a stand to seal horizontal but I quickly scapped that setup. I took the sealer and tabletop and mounted on the wall. then made a shelf at the right height for the bags to seal. I drive tractor trailer for Landair Express so I got the bags from one of our customers at a good price. I've sealed 90 bags so far and it works great. I paid $75 for the sealer and its money well spent.

Has anyone tried Pellet making using Pecan or Walnut Shells.? I would think they would be excellent and some have a natural oil binder. They might run a little hot but I would think you could mix them with Wood Pellets to take care of that problem.
Posted 1 year ago # -
not yet but it might work. if someone sent me a sample i would run it for them to find out. anyone heard how jide's making out.

well, this is where i stand. my mill has a tapered shaft so pto is out. so the new plan is a different engine all together. one of the guys i work with had a chevy 250 inline 6 cylinder he weren't using so i bought it yesterday. dropped off the standard flywheel from 6 cyl and belt hub from diesel engine at the machine shop today to have it centered with a dutchman and holes made to bolt to flywheel. i'll still have control over the mill with the clutch on side of mill. will be using the same pulleys and belts so the only two differences will be the noise level will be much lower and will not bog down going from 15hp to 105hp engine. should be back in action this weekend. also received the farmex mt pro moisture tester on saturday. i found if i run all samples on corn setting, it works very well. cedar that i thought would work as is was at only 5.9%. kiln dried shavings were 6.9%. ddg was 15.9%. so as you can see this will take the guess work away. only takes about 10 seconds to get a reading.

Holy Cow man! That'll be a Formula 1 racing machine! We'll definetly have to hear that sucka running! You think a 105hp enough though??? Shoot will put a Blower on it and make it throw out another 50hp! LOL Put a vid on YouTube or MySpace and send it along to me so I can link to it.

the beast of the east is all together! just need to bolt it down to the floor now. plan to be running this weekend. ran some ddg through on sunday to test and it went through very well. i think i created a monster!! on the farmex i use both corn settings. depends on which will pick up a reading

tried some the other night made with ddg and starch. they didn,t want to fire up. just smolder. i got home tonight and put two pans full in the oven on 225 F for 15 minutes to test my theory. glad to say i am right for once. seems its a little to moist still. dried out nice and are now burning nice. have a plan in my head to build a dryer. also took my die to a machine shop yesterday to have the top leveled. where the die is worn to the rollers that broke, the new rollers have too much of a gap to press the center holes. pellets where coming out poor looking. he's also going to smooth the journals more. hope it makes a big difference. has everyone tried their pellets yet. cold weathers coming fast. don't get caught with poor burning. glad i tried again.

well finally got new dies, picked up a carbid reamer and reamed all holes in die.Even had a 15 degree angle carbide reamer made to ream chamfers on top. Then i run the flour through about 20 times just for the heck of it,then cleaned dies and rollers up and sprayed with graphite lube.Run a batch of cardboard through and ran well. Then run a batch of paper run good, now was time to run hard wood saw dust.Mixed up a batch and tried pellets came out nice and hard the hotter the dies got the better the pellets were. The finall thought is you have to get all of the machining marks out of the dies so it has nothing to catch on going through the die holes. How is it going viper sorry i did not get back to you,had to leave out of town again writing this from hotel.
